Despite the recent black suit resurgence, formal attire is now primarily black or grey. This is likely due to the ease of matching specifics like your shirt and your tie with a dark suit.

That said, if you do want a grey suit, that’s a fine choice but it does pose some difficulties. And if you want to dress for a formal occasion with a grey suit, you’re faced with some additional choices to think about.

Your shirt, for instance, can be white or any shade of grey or light blue. The rule of thumb is to wear what looks best and avoid any jarring patterns.

Your tie should go with a dark blue shirt. It is recommended that it should go slightly deeper than the color of your shirt, or any other pattern.

As for your shoes, you can consider black or dark brown shoes.

Professional Wear

Typically, a minimalist shoe such as a grey shoe can be worn with a formal outfit.
